This novel got put on the backburner for me because my wife decided she wanted to write it. She got the fire, the inspiration!
And she wrote a lot. But the process also wore on her.
She’s not a writer and so I think the process just became intimidating. And while she’s not giving up on the writing, she wanted to hand it back to me for a bit so I spent yesternight and tonight rewriting the first chapter.
This first chapter has now gone through many iterations, which is not so unusual, but I’m hoping it’s now at a place she’s happy with. She’s reading it right now as I type this so I’ll find out soon. But it has been interesting to hear how the story is developing in her head and to see how she’s approaching the story as a writer or creative director of the story.
But, yes, I’m back to tinkering on this novel in between all the rest. I do think it’s a fun process and an interesting one, to write a book with the one you love.
