This week really got sidetracked with work, but I’m back in the saddle and should be finishing the rewrite/edit of Broken Katana in a few days. Possibly tomorrow!
Not a lot is changing with this one. Since it’s the place where the whole world expands and solidifies, in a sense, there’s actually not much to amend. It’s where the first three books find a lot of clarity.
What is surprising about returning to this world, these stories, is the way it simply moves, even as I swap narrators. This has me thinking that the way to wrap up this storyline is to use dual narrators and hope between them in order to bring this home.
The fourth and final part of this was meant to be called Goblin Fire because I misheard Kelby saying Goblet of Fire and that got so stuck in my head that I’m still using it over a year later. I’m excited to leap in. Excited to use this excuse to reread these books and then dive right into whatever comes next.
Some other updates:
The serialization of Songs of my Mother began this week over on Royal Road! Chapters are coming out daily and we’re already twelve chapters in, so there’s a lot to catch up on already.
Pretty good time to jump in!
I’m also beginning, this week, to release the chapters on Ream. It’s not really different from Royal Road but people may prefer reading it there. Who can say?
If you’re interested in this novel, I hope you share it with people.
Then there’s the Kickstarter for the Broken Katana omnibus to follow along with! The goal is to launch it in mid March right now. Should be ready to go! You’ll be able to follow along here on this writing diary.
I’ve begun serializing Ash Cinema over on my substack. We’re seven parts in with new parts released every Monday and Friday. We’re nearly to the end of the first novella of three, so there’s a lot to leap into here.
And then I have a surprise release.

Tony Tran, who also illustrated Horus & Motherfucker, is collaborating with me on this zine for a TTRPG setting compatible with OSR systems! It’s a fun little project and we’re seeking a modest little goal for the crowdfunding.
The project will launch this week as part of Zine Quest on Kickstarter!

This all spilled out of the Morktober poems I was writing for Tony’s illustrations. It was a lot of fun and seemed worthwhile to turn into something new and tangible.
