Wrap and weave and wail
We walk the weeping ways
With the Wellerman
Webbed in whaling chains

“Keep him close and quiet,
Can’t call for clemency
Quelled and crushed and chained,”
Called captain Corcoran.

Muted and mastered
Shambling as mockery
Of the man he made
Himself when he smuggled free
